There are 2 kinds of forklifts, predicated whether or not they run on gas or electricity:
IC or Internal Combustion Forklifts: The Internal Combustion Forklifts run on gas, liquid propane, CNG or compressed natural gas or diesel. The gas powered units are made to be used outside because they release pollutants and gases that can be dangerous if inhaled. Units that run on gasoline are also suitable for use in the rain and in bad weather. These units can lift weights roughly 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel costs and maintenance, units which run on gas are much more costly to use compared to models which run on electricity, although, they cost much less up front compared to the electric units. Units which run on liquid propane are the best choice to be used inside.
Electric Lift Trucks: The electric forklift units are powered by very large batteries that should be recharged. The machines do not produce any polluting air emissions as these models do not burn any fuel. They are the best choice for indoor applications and warehouses. Additionally, electric lift trucks do not require any fuel storage units and they are much quieter to run compared to other models. Amongst the disadvantages of the electric units is that they are unable to lift loads over 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered units.
The forklift is specially designed to transport goods and supplies easily and quickly. Accidents do occur on a regular basis as is the case with nearly all types of machines. There are some safety regulations which should be followed so as to keep everyone safe. The most vital concern is recruiting a qualified operator, who would be able to show you a valid forklift license.
On the market today, there are numerous different kinds of forklifts available. Deciding which one is best for your specific requirements would be based on the type of environment your machine would need to operate in, for instance, indoors or outdoors or both and what types of loads that you need to transport. Once you know your particular needs, it would be easy to match up to the right kind of forklift. When you know all your requirements exactly you would be able to make an accurate choice.
Renting is one more great way to try out various units if you want to check out different features and see what kind of choices are available. This is a cheaper way to determine if the kind of machine you have selected could keep up with you on the job location.
