How to Properly Use a Forklift
Lift trucks are lifting machines which could transport cargo. They are commonly used in a variety of industries to transport heavy materials. They could be found at building supply companies, warehouses and airports. Anybody operating a forklift should be trained to carefully utilize the machine. It is essential to be totally aware of one's surroundings when operating a forklift. Lift trucks are designed to run on propane, gasoline, batteries or diesel. Standard lift trucks are popular in various commercial applications and are not hard to use with correct training. The following steps outline the fundamentals of operating a lift truck:
1 Get familiar with all the levers that are utilized to transport and maneuver the cargo from place to another place. The levers can be found to the right of the steering wheel.
2 The first lever controls the down and up movement of the forks. Pulling the lever towards your body moves the blades up, and pushing the lever away from you moves them down. Tines must be kept close to the ground except when unloading or loading.
3 The two other levers work to control the forks movement left and right and to control the tines tilt. The forks are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is better that you practice before picking up a load. Using the second lever, push it away from your body to tilt the forks forward, and pull it towards you to tilt the tines back.
4 The third lever is moved side to side to control the movement of the forks from right to left. Simply move the lever towards where you want the tines to move: left in order to move the tines left, and right to move the tines right.
5 Always approach a load carefully. Lower the forks and cautiously drive forward until the forks slide under the cargo. Next lift the forks a few centimeters by pulling the lever towards you. If the load is top-heavy, you should tilt the blades backwards a small amount for balance.
6 Safe driving rules consist of slowly taking corners and honking to warn pedestrians or other employees that the lift truck is approaching. Approach the place where you would be working with care. Manipulate the levers to maneuver the cargo to where it is going. When the load is placed, reverse gears and carefully back away.
7 Lift trucks stop in much the same way as other vehicles. The brake is situated to the accelerator's left side. When stopped, shift the gear into "park."
