Forklift Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is made of many components. The main components that make up a lift truck are the truck frame, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the wheels and the tilt cylinders. Furthermore, a forklift has different kinds of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are of equal importance since they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail a few of the lift truck parts.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is actually the forklifts metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are using the equipment. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would harm the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and enables the forks to move up and downwards. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and other attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Additionally, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various kinds of attachments are handy for transporting different types of loads.
